Union Comm Supports National Science Achievement Forum, Connecting Hong Kong Youth with Innovation Ecosystems

Union Communications Hong Kong Limited (“Union Communications”), a leading policy advocacy and communications consultancy in Hong Kong, today supported the successful delivery of the “Mengxi Youth Talk” National Science Achievement Popularization Programme 2025 – National Science Achievement Popularization Forum, held at the Hong Kong Science Park.

The Forum attracted over 300 guests on site and reached more than 50,000 viewers online, bringing together students, educators, policymakers, industry leaders, and international organisations to explore how science, technology, and education can empower Hong Kong youth through Chinese Mainland, local, and global innovation achievements and perspectives.

The Forum was organised by the Federation of New Territories Youth (FNTY, http://www.fnty.org.hk/) and the Federation of New Territories Youth Foundation Limited (FNTY Foundation Limited), and officially opened with a ceremonial launch attended by representatives from government, academia, industry, and the education sector. The launch marked the formal commencement of a structured platform dedicated to science popularisation, education technology (EdTech), and youth innovation engagement.

Key speakers and guests included Mr. Kevin Choi, JP, Permanent Secretary for Innovation, Technology and Industry of the HKSAR Government, who shared policy perspectives on strengthening innovation and technology education and talent development for Hong Kong youth, and Mr. Tam Chun Kwok, BBS, JP, Legislative Council Member and Chairperson of the FNTY and the FNTY Foundation Limited, who underscored the importance of helping young people connect national scientific achievements with global technological trends and real-world applications.

The Forum also featured a global perspective through a keynote address by Mr. Calvin Chan, Project Administrator at the United Nations' International Telecommunication Union (ITU) Regional Office for Asia and the Pacific, who discussed universal connectivity and sustainable digital transformation in addressing the digital divide. Additional thematic sessions were delivered by representatives from leading research institutions and technology enterprises, including the Chinese Academy of Sciences Hong Kong Innovation Institute, the Zhongguancun Internet Education Innovation Center, Tencent, JD Group, and local technology companies specialising in aerospace science, artificial intelligence, robotics, and digital education.

Anchored in the theme of empowering Hong Kong youth through cross-regional and cross-sector innovation, the Forum highlighted how EdTech solutions, AI tools, virtual laboratories, and interactive learning models can enhance students’ understanding of frontier technologies while connecting classroom learning with national development and global innovation ecosystems.

A key highlight of the Forum was the Youth Innovation Practice Challenge, which showcased award-winning projects submitted by students across primary, secondary, and tertiary levels. The competition encouraged participants to apply AI, digital design tools, and creative problem-solving approaches to themes such as space exploration, deep-sea research, intelligent infrastructure, and smart cities, demonstrating how technology-enabled education can translate knowledge into hands-on practice.

Interactive “Meet the Scientists” sessions further enabled direct dialogue between students and experts from research institutions and industry, allowing young participants to engage with scientific thinking, career pathways, and ethical considerations in technology development.

Union Comm, as a policy advocacy and strategic communications partner, supported the Forum through communications planning, stakeholder engagement, and event management. It helped to amplify the programme’s core message: that empowering youth through education technology and multi-level innovation perspectives — spanning the Chinese Mainland, Hong Kong, and the global community — is essential to building a future-ready generation.

“Today’s Forum demonstrated the strong appetite among Hong Kong youth to engage with science and technology when learning is made accessible, interactive, and connected to real-world achievements,” said Sam Han, partner at Union Comm. “By linking national innovation strengths with global perspectives and education technology, we can better equip young people with the skills, confidence, and vision needed for the future.”

Union Comm will continue to support and promote initiatives that advance digital inclusion, gender equality, and other SDGs, by leveraging policy dialogue, technology, and cross-sector collaboration.
